What Are Common Signs My Truck Suspension Needs Upgrading?

Suspension Upgrade

As a truck owner, you rely on your vehicle for various tasks, from daily commuting to heavy-duty hauling and off-road adventures. Your truck's suspension system is crucial to maintaining a smooth ride, ensuring stability, and handling loads effectively. Over time, you may notice signs indicating that your truck's suspension needs upgrading. In this post, we'll discuss the common signs to watch out for and how upgrading to Torklift StableLoad® suspension stabilizers can enhance your truck's performance and safety.

1. Sagging or Uneven Ride Height

One of the most noticeable signs that your truck's suspension needs attention is sagging or an uneven ride height, especially when carrying a load. If the rear of your truck sits significantly lower than the front, it could indicate that your suspension is struggling to handle the weight. This not only affects your truck's appearance but can also lead to poor handling and increased wear on other components.

2. Excessive Bouncing or Rough Ride

A healthy suspension system absorbs bumps and vibrations, providing a smooth and comfortable ride. If you notice your truck bouncing excessively after hitting a bump or feeling every pothole in the road, it could be a sign that your suspension components, such as shocks or leaf springs, are worn out or insufficient for your needs. This is especially common when carrying heavy loads or towing.

3. Poor Handling and Steering Control

A truck with an inadequate suspension system may suffer from poor handling and steering control. If your truck feels unstable, sways excessively in turns, or drifts from side to side on the road, these are red flags that your suspension is not maintaining proper contact between the tires and the road. This can lead to unsafe driving conditions and increased risk of accidents.

Upgrade Your Suspension with StableLoads

StableLoad Suspension Upgrade

If you're experiencing any of these signs, it may be time to upgrade your truck's suspension. Torklift International's StableLoad® Suspension Upgrade offers an innovative solution to improve your truck's handling, stability, and overall ride quality. Designed to work with your factory leaf spring suspension system, StableLoad® suspension stabilizers engage the vehicle's overload lower springs, providing additional support when needed.

The StableLoad® suspension upgrade is the only overload suspension system that follows the two major truck manufacturing laws of suspension:

  • Law 1: Must be uncompromisingly comfortable as a passenger vehicle
  • Law 2: Must ride safely without compromising comfort while towing and hauling

Benefits of StableLoad® Suspension Upgrade:

  • Improved Ride Quality: The StableLoad® Suspension Upgrade helps reduce excessive bouncing and sway, delivering a smoother and more comfortable ride, even when carrying heavy loads.
  • Durable Construction: The StableLoad® suspension stabilizers are crafted out of durable stainless steel. Our engineers meticulously crafted this product to withstand the elements and resist corrosion.
  • Enhanced Stability: By engaging the overload leaf springs, the StableLoad® improves handling and reduce body roll, providing greater control and confidence on the road.
  • Easy Installation: The StableLoad® Suspension Upgrade is designed for quick and easy installation, allowing you to enjoy the benefits of upgraded suspension without the hassle.

Upgrading your truck's suspension is essential for maintaining performance, safety, and comfort, especially when dealing with heavy loads or demanding driving conditions. Keep an eye out for the common signs mentioned above and upgrade to Torklift StableLoads®. With the Torklift StableLoad®, you'll experience a better ride, enhanced stability, and peace of mind on every journey.

Can I Build My Own SuperTruss? Here’s Why It’s Not That Simple

SuperTruss

When it comes to towing heavy loads, safety and reliability are paramount. Many people are aware of the Torklift SuperTruss Extension, which is designed to work with the SUPER HITCH® to provide the highest towing capabilities in the industry. However, a question that often comes up is, "Can I build my own SuperTruss?" While it might seem like a straightforward task for a skilled DIY enthusiast, the reality is far more complex.

Why You Shouldn't Build Your Own SuperTruss

The SuperTruss Extension is not just any hitch extender; it’s a highly specialized product engineered to meet rigorous safety and performance standards. The design and materials used in the SuperTruss are critical to ensuring it can handle the extreme forces involved in towing heavy loads, especially when using a truck camper that requires a significant extension beyond the rear of the vehicle.

Building your own version of the SuperTruss could lead to catastrophic failure. Here’s why:

  1. Precision Engineering: The SuperTruss hitch extension is designed with exact specifications in mind, including material thickness, structural reinforcement, and welding techniques. These aspects are crucial in ensuring that the extension can handle the advertised weight capacities.
  2. Material Quality: Torklift uses high-grade steel and other materials that have been tested for strength and durability. Using inferior or incorrect materials could result in the extension bending, breaking, or failing under load.
  3. Safety Testing: The SuperTruss hitch extender undergoes rigorous testing to ensure it can handle the stresses of towing. This includes real-world testing under extreme conditions, something that a DIY project would not be able to replicate.

The SUPER HITCH and SuperTruss: A Perfect Pair

SuperTruss

One of the key reasons the SuperTruss hitch extender is so effective is its compatibility with the Torklift SUPER HITCH. The SUPER HITCH features a patented dual-receiver hitch that is specially designed to distribute the towing load across two points rather than one. This dual-receiver design is crucial for handling the high weight capacities that the SuperTruss is rated for.

Leave It to the Experts

While the idea of building your own SuperTruss might seem appealing from a cost-saving perspective, it’s important to understand that this is not a project that should be taken lightly. The engineering, materials, and safety testing that go into the SuperTruss are what make it a trusted product for towing heavy loads. Without these elements, a DIY version could be dangerous and ineffective.

For those who need to tow heavy loads safely, investing in a Torklift SUPER HITCH and SuperTruss is the only way to ensure that your equipment is up to the task. Don’t compromise on safety—trust the experts who have designed these products with your towing needs in mind.

How Tight Should Camper Turnbuckles Be? 8 Steps to Making Sure Your Camper Stays Put (and You Don’t Lose Your Mind)

So, you've packed your camper, double-checked your route, and even remembered the marshmallows. But have you thought about your turnbuckles? Because if those aren’t set correctly, your camper might decide to start its own adventure... without you. After you've selected turnbuckles for your truck camper, it's crucial that the turnbuckles are installed and adjusted properly. Because, let's face it, nobody wants their camper to make a dramatic exit off the truck bed. A very important aspect of installing turnbuckles on a camper is applying the correct amount of tension. Proper tension on a turnbuckle is designed to correctly connect the truck camper tie downs to the truck camper anchor points and protect your camper and anchor points from damage.

 Picture1

How do you know how to find the proper tension on a truck bed camper turnbuckle?

Wondering how to find the perfect tension for your truck camper turnbuckle? Camper manufacturers recommend a precise 300 pounds of tension for securing your camper. Thankfully, you don’t need to become a human calculator. Just use our patented spring tension indicator with FastGun, SpringLoad XL, or AnchorGuard Derringer turnbuckles, and you’ll have the right tension without breaking a sweat.

Picture1

 Black FastGun turnbuckle (S9529)

If there’s not enough tension, you might just experience the thrill of losing your camper—or watching it do a little dance within the truck bed. And if there's too much tension? Well, you might as well start shopping for new anchor points. Torklift turnbuckles are spring-loaded to avoid any potential damage to tie downs or camper anchor points.

Picture2

Example of damage to camper anchor point

Avoid damage to your camper and truck by using spring-loaded turnbuckles with the proper amount of tension applied. Torklift’s patented spring tension indicator is a round O-ring used as a gauge to set your spring tension.

Picture3

Spring Tension Indicator on FastGun Turnbuckle

Follow these 8 easy steps to determine the correct turnbuckle tension with a Torklift International FastGun turnbuckle:

  1. Hang the FastGun truck camper turnbuckle upper hook from the camper anchor point.
  2. Adjust the threaded hook bolt so the bottom of it is approximately 1/2 inch above the tie down insert (The handle on the FastGun turnbuckle should be in closed position).
  3. Open the handle on the FastGun turnbuckle.
  4. Hook the bottom hook bolt into the tie down anchor point.
  5. Pull the lever handle down until you begin to feel spring tension. Hint: The hole for the snapper pin should be nearly blocked halfway.

Picture4

  1. Adjust the round O-ring up against the bottom of the FastGun turnbuckle.
  2. Snap down the FastGun handle.
  3. Snapping the handle down should result in the round O-ring being spaced approximately 1/4 inch below the body of the FastGun turnbuckle.

Picture5

Spring tension indicator on FastGun turnbuckle

The ¼ inch space visible between the O-ring and the body of the turnbuckle indicates the internal spring within the turnbuckle is activated and compressed. You have now achieved the proper 300 pounds of tension.

Now that you’ve successfully secured the camper turnbuckles, avoid stolen turnbuckles by securing them with the FastGun turnbuckle locks. With a keyed-alike snap lock design, they come in a set of four and have weather caps to protect from debris. Because nothing says 'bad day' like discovering your perfectly tensioned turnbuckles are missing.

By following these 8 simple steps, your camper is now securely fastened and won’t be making any unscheduled exits from the truck bed. Enjoy your journey and remember, the only thing more fun than a secure camper is a secure camper with a lock on it. Because, let’s face it, the only thing worse than losing your camper is the look on your face when you realize it’s gone.

Introducing Torklift's ApexAnchors Internal Frame-Mounted Payload Anchor System: Elevate Your Truck Camper Experience

At Torklift International, we are dedicated to enhancing the adventure experience for truck camper owners and outdoor enthusiasts. We are thrilled to announce the launch of our latest innovation—the ApexAnchors Internal Frame-Mounted Payload Anchor system paired with newly design turnbuckles. This cutting-edge product is set to revolutionize how you secure your truck camper, providing unparalleled stability and security.

Camper on truck

The ApexAnchors Payload Anchor Advantage

The ApexAnchors Internal Frame-Mounted Payload Anchor system is designed specifically for truck camper owners with campers that have internal anchor points. Brands such as Scout, Cirrus, Four Wheel Campers, and Travel Lite will benefit immensely from this new system. Instead of mounting these truck campers to the cargo anchor points installed to the truck bed by the truck manufacturer, which are inadequate for long-term, heavy-duty use, our payload anchors mount directly to the truck's frame which is the strongest part of the truck. This allows for increased stability that will minimize camper shift during transit, which can cause irreversible damage to your truck and camper. Excess stress on your camper to lead to loss of structural integrity of your camper roof.

Why Upgrade from Cargo Anchor Points?

Comparison Anchors RED Jack 2

Standard cargo anchor points, provided by truck manufacturers, are intended for light and temporary use – such as hauling a playground set home from Home Depot or a dresser you picked up from a garage sale. These points are usually not weight-rated and are installed directly onto the truck bed (made of aluminum, plastic, or composite), which is not designed to bear significant, dynamic loads over prolonged periods. In contrast, Torklift's maximum payload anchor point system offers heavy-duty anchor points bolted directly to the truck's frame and are designed to haul the payload capacity of your truck. This ensures they can handle substantial loads with a high center of gravity, like a truck camper, providing a secure and reliable connection.

Apex Anchor In use

Key Features of the ApexAnchors System

  1. Concealable Design: The ApexAnchors Payload Anchor System is designed to be as concealed as possible. They are retractable when not in use, allowing your truck bed to maintain maximum functionality.
  2. Unbeatable Payload Capabilities: These heavy-duty payload anchor points are bolted directly to the truck frame (the foundation of the truck) allowing you to haul heavy, dynamic loads without fear of damaging the standard factory cargo anchor points. Each payload anchor point is rated for up to 2,000 lbs.
  3. Enhanced Stability: Our innovative internal payload anchor solution connects through the truck bed directly to the frame, offering solid and dependable anchor points for your truck camper, preventing camper shift which can cause damage to your camper roof.
  4. TRUE Frame-Mounted Design: This payload anchor design passes through the bed and is bolted directly to the frame, the foundation of the truck. It does not rely on the truck bed, which is limited in capability due to its plastic, composite, or thin metal construction.
  5. Easy Installation: The ApexAnchors Payload Anchor system features a straightforward installation process, allowing you to set up your truck camper quickly and efficiently. The simple, bolt-on design ensures you spend less time installing and more time on the road or off it.

Ready to Enhance Your Camping Experience?

The ApexAnchors Payload Anchor system is now available for purchase. Visit torkliftcentral.com to find your fit and purchase today. As we continue to expand our offerings, our goal remains the same: to make your camping experiences unforgettable.

Exploring the Versatility and Applications of the C2215 TorkLift Camper Tie-Downs

The C2215 TorkLift Camper Tie-Downs present a revolutionary solution for truck owners who cherish safety, stability, and aesthetics while hauling campers. Designed specifically for a range of GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado models, these front tie-downs exemplify the perfect blend of functionality and design. In this article, we delve into the myriad applications and benefits of the C2215, highlighting why they are an essential accessory for your truck and camper setup.

 C2215a

Enhanced Safety and Stability

At the heart of the C2215's design is the commitment to safety and stability. By mounting directly to the frame of the truck, these tie-downs provide a secure connection point for your camper. Unlike bed-mounted systems, the frame-mounted C2215 lowers the camper's center of gravity and distributes weight evenly across the truck bed. This design minimizes the risks associated with top-heavy loads, such as swaying and instability in strong winds. For truck owners who frequently travel with their campers, this means a more comfortable and safer ride, devoid of the usual worries about shifting loads.

Invisible When Not in Use

Aesthetics play a crucial role in the design of the C2215. Understanding that truck owners value the appearance of their vehicles, TorkLift has engineered these tie-downs to be almost invisible when not in use. The removable arms allow for a seamless look, ensuring that the tie-downs do not detract from the truck's appearance. This feature is particularly appealing to those who use their trucks for both recreational and everyday purposes.

Custom Fit and Easy Installation

The C2215 tie-downs are custom-made for specific truck models, ensuring a perfect fit without the need for drilling or modifications. This bespoke design means that they use pre-existing holes in the truck's frame, simplifying installation and preserving the integrity of the vehicle. Compatibility with a wide range of GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado models, from 2011 to 2019, makes these tie-downs a versatile choice for many truck owners.

Securing the Camper

To secure the camper, the C2215 requires turnbuckles (sold separately), which attach to the tie-downs. The adjustable design of the tie-down arms allows for a precise fit, ensuring that the turnbuckles can reach the camper's anchors without contacting the truck. This adjustability is crucial for maintaining a secure hold and preventing any movement or sliding of the camper during transit.

Compatibility and Warranty

The C2215 is not only a testament to TorkLift's commitment to quality but also to their confidence in the product. With a lifetime warranty, truck owners can rest assured of the durability and reliability of these tie-downs. The extensive compatibility list, covering a range of GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado models, underscores the tie-downs' versatility and wide-ranging application.

Conclusion

In summary, the C2215 TorkLift Camper Tie-Downs offer an unparalleled combination of safety, aesthetics, and ease of use. For the avid camper or the occasional adventurer, these tie-downs are an indispensable addition to their truck. They ensure a stable, secure, and stylish solution to hauling campers, making every journey with your home-away-from-home a smooth and enjoyable experience.
